Fifth disease is a common childhood illness caused by Parvovirus B19. Although the illness may look serious because of the rash it causes, it generally causes few complications. However, it is always smart for parents to visit a pediatric urgent care provider when their children have symptoms to confirm the diagnosis.
Watch this video to learn more about fifth disease. The illness starts with flu-like symptoms, and as it progresses, it causes a red rash on the cheeks (sometimes called a “slapped cheeks” rash) and a lacy rash on the arms. Your after-hours pediatric care provider can diagnose fifth disease and recommend any necessary treatments.
At Pediatrics After Hours, we provide urgent care in the DFW area when your child’s doctor is not available, for everything from a sore throat to a fifth disease rash. Find out which of our four locations is closest to you by calling 972-355-2273.
